Imagine a world where people smile at one another instead of giving a gruff, dirty look, or looking at their mobile device. Imagine a world where people actually hold the door for one another, let you go ahead of them in line at the store, let another have the parking place instead of racing to get there first, and neighbors come over and mow your grass when they see you need help. This is the world I want to live in. It starts by you making an effort to be kind in every moment.
Kindness is an act, a simple act. It does not have to be big and grand. Rather, it can be very small or slight, such as a simple smile or ‘Have a good day’ to someone who looks down. It can be as simple as bringing your neighbors trash can up to their garage or putting their newspaper on the front stoop when it’s sitting in the yard or elsewhere.
The smallest of gestures combined creates a ripple effect that we can all feel throughout our communities.
You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
The next time you are in a hurry or feel that grumpy mood come upon, stop a moment and make up your mind to smile instead of frown. Do a small little gesture for someone else. It will help you to feel better. It may inspire that person to then reciprocate to another person and thus the ripple effect propagates.
Be intentionally kind, even when you just don’t feel like it. Together we can create a kinder, friendlier world.
